Trek Devotional Excerpt

President Boyd K. Packer said: “You are a child of God. He is the father of your spirit. Spiritually you are of noble birth, the offspring of the King of Heaven. Fix that truth in your mind and hold to it.”

And the best news of all is that this identity can never be threatened by sin—either by our mistakes or sins or by the mistakes or sins of others.

There is something from our Heavenly Parents inside of you — some piece of divinity—and since you did nothing to deserve it, there is nothing you (or anyone else) can do to take it away. I can’t become MORE “child of God” by my own merits, and I can’t become LESS “child of God” by my mistakes. I just am a child of God. The divine is just there.

I could give you a million quotes from prophets but, there’s still the matter of whether you believe it. I can’t prove it to you. No one can in this life. Some things can’t be proven. They have to be felt.

How do we come to know this for ourselves?

It begins by seeking to know God. President Russell M. Nelson testified, “Something powerful happens when a child of God seeks to know more about Him and His Beloved Son.”

Coming to know our Father changes everything. His gentle Spirit confirms our true identity. God walks with us as we seek Him through prayerful pleadings, scriptural searchings, and obedient strivings.

Brigham Young described, “When you…see our Father, you will see a being with whom you have long been acquainted, and he will receive you into his arms, and you will be ready to fall into his embrace...”

So let this sink in good and deep: You are a child of God.

I feel it with all my heart.

And I hope that you can too.
