Also, please enjoy this sweet story about the temple.
Over the last 50 years, family history has played an important role in the lives of our
extended family. Previous to us joining the church, my father-in-law, who is not a
member, sent a name every year with an LDS colleague, back to Salt Lake to gather
information for him on the relatives. Slowly our family tree started to form to what it has
grown into today, with family members dating back to 1462.
For years we felt the urgency to digitize over 50 years of family history documents and
research, with that urgency increasing to the point that two of my children, students at
BYU Hawaii, home on break, spent 3 days at their grandparents’ house in West
Redding, scanning, and uploading the information around the clock. Thankfully, the
night before the Carr fire would decimate Old Shasta and West Redding, they finished this
important errand from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. They returned home with
multiple hard drives full of the digitized information. During that fire, my in-laws’ house
burned, and all the paper documents were lost.
Upon returning to BYUH in August, my children, Trevor & Grace Ann, promptly made
their way to The House of the Lord in Laie Hawaii. Every Friday night, and many
midweek sessions, they gathered with friends, classmates and professors to participate
in saving ordinances for our ancestors.
