I love General Conference! I love the talks, the spirit, the music, and the inspiration! It seemed that almost every talk held a message, either directly or indirectly, regarding family history and how important it is. From preserving details, to sharing and preserving photos and memories of our families, preparing names to take to the temple, to sharing the gospel and providing the saving ordinances of the temple with all of God’s children! Also, temple and family history work goes hand-in-hand with missionary work. The stories and experiences of our ancestors can influence and bless the lives of our families today and for generations to come. We cannot fully comprehend it, but the efforts we make now can bless those on both sides of the veil for eternity. That’s a pretty awesome message!
2020 has definitely been a challenging year. Dealing with the effects of COVID-19 for the last seven months has changed all of our lives, resulting in home centered church and virtual meetings and activities. Through it all, have we become more productive or less productive with our efforts in family history?
We miss having our family history center open. We miss interacting with our patrons and look forward to the time that we will be able to reopen our center, even with modifications. Until then, there is much that we can do to honor and celebrate our family and the heritage that we all have, even with the current restrictions.
To quote Steve Anderson of FamilySearch: “The possibilities of activities are endless. Enjoy your family heritage and teach it to your children and grandchildren. After all, it’s Family History Month!”
