I recently listened to an inspiring message from Elder Holland - “Remember Lot’s wife: Faith is for the Future.” The message was delivered to BYU students in 2009, not long after the banking collapse caused by the subprime mortgage fallout. The economists during those years were all talking about the “great recession”. It was a challenging time for many.

Elder Holland’s message was centered on the invitation from the Savior found in Luke 17:32 to “remember Lot’s wife”. “Apparently what was wrong with Lot’s wife was that she wasn’t just looking back; in her heart she wanted to go back.”

The message to each of us is that “Faith is for the future. Faith builds on the past but never longs to stay there. Faith trusts that God has great things in store for each of us and that Christ truly is the “high priest of good things to come.”

During these unsettling times, I like to remind myself that there is so much good still yet to come. We have a bright hope for the future and what it will bring to each of us. Faith in the Prince of Peace allows us to have this great hope.
